I've just read Paul Muldoon's poem for a third time. When I saw it advertised and saw it was connected to Warren Zevon I immediately thought of his quietly virtuosic Dylan poem (can't find the text online but Marcus quotes one of the best lines at least).
This is something of a quite different order. Too easy to say remarkable, extraordinary. How else to describe it though? The synthesis of materials is brilliantly done and his own voice seems stronger, more authoritative than ever.
Reading it on the TLS website will prove a trial I'm afraid with an advertisement nestled against the first lines completely ruining the physical shape. Much better off with the hard copy and mine will be carefully preserved until this is more permanently published, perhaps in his new collection.
